About

We are in constant conversation with life - and the human condition.

It’s not what you look at, it’s what you see.

As registered Psychologist (M.Com Ind. Psych) and Fine Artist, Maritha van Amerom’s work gravitates between creative exploration and meditation. Her inspiration comes from nature and through closely observing her surroundings. “I believe some of the most important elements for more fulfilled living is creativity and curiosity. These strengths can be developed and can make an enormous positive impact on work and life in general.”

Maritha makes use of various media in her work, but her favourite remains ink. The versatility of this medium is what makes it special and she often makes use of the spontaneous mark making that happens accidentally. These marks are incorporated into the final work, working with the ‘controlled’ as well as the ‘uncontrolled’. “The spontaneous nature of ink often creates unplanned marks. Like life, certain things often just happen outside of our control, and you have to work with that, you have to use that ‘happening’ and incorporate it into your own unique picture.”

Apart from being professional artist, Maritha also lectures and conducts workshops in art and creativity at various institutions.

Her grandmother’s passion for art can still be singled out as one of the biggest influences in her art career.

Maritha van Amerom has participated in numerous exhibitions and her work forms part of collections worldwide, including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland, France and Scotland. Maritha has been a finalist in the Thami Mnyele Fine Art Awards (2014) and SPI Portrait Awards (top 150, 2015). She has also been selected as one of the Gold list Top 60 emerging international artists of today (March 2017, 2019 Art Market).
